  • Windows 11 build 26220.5790 (KB5065779) in the Dev Channel and build 26120.5790 in the Beta Channel introduce fluid dictation for Voice Access, expanded Studio Effects for more cameras, and new File Explorer hover commands.
  • The updates also address fixes for Taskbar previews, File Explorer flickering, Settings hangs, and performance issues, while listing known problems such as audio failures and Xbox controller crashes.

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 26220.5790 (KB5065779) in the Dev Channel as part of the version 25H2 development. This update introduces new improvements and features, including fluid dictation for Voice Access, Studio Effects expanding to support more camera brands, and File Explorer gaining new on-hover commands.

In addition, the software giant is making available build 26120.5790 (KB5065779) in the Beta Channel, but this update belongs to the version 24H2 development. Also, since version 25H2 and 24H2 are identical operating systems, the changes in the Dev Channel are also available in the Beta Channel.

Finally, these preview builds also bring fixes, and the company notes several known issues.

What’s new on Windows 11 25H2 build 26220.5790

These are the latest changes that Microsoft has been working on for Windows 11 25H2.

Voice Access with fluid dictation

Starting with build 26220.5790, Voice Access is getting a new fluid dictation feature that automatically corrects grammar, punctuation, and filler words as you speak. The idea behind this feature is to minimize the need for manual editing when using dictation.

This feature uses small AI models already available on your computer, allowing it to operate offline and preventing your information from being sent to the cloud.

You can also use this feature on any app that supports text input, but it won’t work in secure fields such as passwords or PINs.

Voice Access fluid dictation is available for Copilot+ PCs and is currently only supported in English.

Studio Effects on more cameras

Although the Windows Studio Effects have been available for some time, they’re limited to certain cameras. Starting with the update KB5065779, Microsoft is expanding support for more camera models and brands.

In some Copilot+ PCs, the company is adding the ability to use the AI effects with secondary cameras, such as USB webcams and built-in rear cameras.

To enable Studio Effects on additional cameras, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, select the other camera (such as a USB webcam), and then click the “Edit” button for the “Advanced camera options” setting. On the settings page, turn on the “Use Windows Studio Effects” feature.

This is the first rolling out for Copilot+ PCs using AI Intel processors, and it’ll then expand to Copilot+ PCs using AI AMD and Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.

File Explorer new on-hover commands

This update also introduces an updated version of File Explorer, featuring a new context menu on the “Home” page that appears when hovering over a file. The menu offers the “Open file location” and “Ask Copilot about this file” options.

This feature is currently available for users logged in with a Microsoft account, but it’ll later be available for school and work accounts, as well as for users in Europe.

Other fixes and changes

In addition to the new features and improvements, Windows 11 builds 26220.5790 and 26120.5790 ship various fixes, including:

  • Taskbar: Resolved misaligned app previews after changing display resolution.
  • File Explorer: Fixed context menu flickering between default and “Show more options” when right-clicking with certain apps installed.
  • Settings: Addressed hang when scanning temporary files under Storage settings
  • Other: Fixed an Event Viewer error: “Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider” failed to load (error 57), and resolved a performance issue causing lag (up to 500ms) in File Explorer, the Taskbar, and video playback on some devices.

Microsoft is also disabling the “Advanced” page in the Settings app to replace the “For developers” page, but it’ll make it available again after the issue is fixed. Also, the AI agent for the Settings app is now rolling out for French users.

Finally, the company is also warning of a few known issues, including:

  • File Explorer: The Shared section in File Explorer Home may appear even when empty.
  • For developers: PIX on Windows can’t play back GPU captures on this build.
  • Audio: Audio may stop working, indicated by a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager (for example, “ACPI Audio Compositor”).
  • Xbox Controllers: Using Xbox Controllers with Bluetooth may cause a Blue Screen of Death error.
