Microsoft has released the Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26300.8758) for version 26H2 through the Experimental experience in the Windows Insider Program. This flight introduces improvements for existing features, as well as various fixes, as part of the Windows K2 initiative.

What’s new on Windows 11 build 26300.8758 (Experimental)

These are the new features and improvements rolling out in the Experimental channel:

Taskbar sizing option

Taskbar customization is becoming easier with a new dedicated “Taskbar size” setting. Instead of relying on the automatic scaling option, Windows 11 now includes a separate setting that lets you choose between “Small,” “Medium,” and “Large” Taskbar icons.

The change makes the feature easier to find and gives users more direct control over how much space the taskbar occupies on the screen.

One thing to note is that this setting will also affect the “Show smaller app icons” when setting the Taskbar to small.

Finally, the company is also refining the transitions between Taskbar sizes for a smoother experience.

File Explorer improvements

In File Explorer, the company has improved the “Details” pane by making cloud file thumbnail previews more reliable and reorganizing the layout to make file properties easier to find.

This update also fixes an issue that prevented the OneDrive shortcut from working when File Explorer was launched with administrator privileges. In addition, it resolves a bug that caused the permanent delete confirmation dialog to display an internal Recycle Bin filename instead of the original filename.

Sounds changes

According to the company, this update improves system sounds when using the dark mode option.
