  • Google Chrome gets a feature to organize tabs using AI.
  • You will now be able to create custom themes for the browser using the new “Create with AI” feature.
  • Finally, the “Help me write” feature will help you generate text with AI.
  • These features are slowly rolling out for users in the US, starting with version 121.

Google is finally catching up with Microsoft in bringing AI features to Chrome. Starting with Chrome version 121, the search giant is adding three generative AI features for Windows 11, 10, and macOS devices, including an option to organize tabs, create custom themes, and generate text with a single prompt.

The tab organizer is an option that allows you to organize open tabs in groups. Although you can already group tabs in Chrome, the new feature will use AI to sort the tabs into logical groups. The browser will even suggest names and emojis for the groups to make them easier to identify.

To organize taps in Google Chrome, you have to right-click a tab and choose the “Organize Similar Tabs” option or from the “Search tabs” interface (down-arrow button from the top-left).

Microsoft Edge already has a similar feature called “Group similar tabs” that works in the same way. Furthermore, you can even use the feature by asking Copilot to organize your tabs automatically.

Chrome is also adding a new feature that allows you to use AI to create custom themes. The AI-powered feature will also include options for choosing from 16 moods and 12 styles.

To create Chrome themes with AI, on the “New Tab” page, select Customize Chrome > Change Theme > Create with AI, and use the composer to create a new custom theme.

The “Themes” page in the Chrome Web Store even includes a few AI-generated themes created by Google that you can download and install on your browser.

Google is also adding AI to help you write drafts of content.

To create generate text with AI, you have to right-click the text box or field on any web page, and choose the “Help me write” option. You can then compose a prompt that the AI can use to start generating content automatically.

The ability to create content with AI is another feature that Microsoft Edge has had for a while with the “Compose” feature inside the Copilot interface that also allows you to customize the tone, format, and length of the text.

These features are rolling out with Google Chrome version 121 as an experiment for users in the United States, and eventually, they are expected to become available in other regions.

The new AI features will become available automatically, but you can always check for update manually from the chrome://settings/help page, and then use these instructions to enable the AI features.
