UPDATED 9/23/2023: Windows 11 23H2 is the second feature update for the operating system arriving before the end of 2023, and in this guide, you will learn the steps to determine if the new version is already installed on your desktop computer, laptop, or tablet.

Although devices receive a new feature update every year, you won’t find the update’s name anywhere in the system. However, each release receives an identification number that allows you to determine the name and version number. For example, in 2023, the most significant update is known as version 23H2, which reflects the year (23) and part of the year (H2 or second half) that usually indicates when the company plans to roll it out.

To confirm the version of Windows 11 23H2 installed on your computer, you can use the “winver” command and the “About” settings page.

This guide will teach you the steps to confirm if Windows 11 23H2 is already installed on your device.

Check if Windows 11 23H2 is installed from winver

To check whether Windows 11 23H2 is installed on your device, use these steps:

  1. Open Start on Windows 11.

  2. Search for winver and press Enter.

    Winver check version 23H2

Quick tip: You can also use the “Windows key + R” keyboard shortcut, type the “winver” command, and click the “OK” button.
  3. Check if the “About Windows” dialog reads “Version 23H2” and “OS Build 22621.2361.”

If the dialog shows “OS Build 22621.2048” or a higher build number, then the device is running the Windows 11 2023 update.

Check if Windows 11 23H2 is installed from Settings

To confirm you have Windows 11 23H2 installed from the Settings app, use these steps:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on System.

  3. Click the About page on the right side.

  4. Check under the “Windows specifications” section and confirm the “Edition” is “Windows 11”.

    About version 23H2 check

If the “About” page shows the “23H2” number and the build number is equal to or higher than “22621.2361,” then you are running version 23H2.

The build 22621.2048 marks when the company switched the version number from 22H2 to 23H2 in the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program. However, when the feature update becomes officially available on September 26, the build may have a higher number.
