If you’re looking to install Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2) on a computer that meets the hardware requirements, you’ll need to create a bootable USB media. This guide will show you how to do it. Although there are multiple ways to upgrade to a new version of Windows 11, starting a device with a USB bootable media is still the best method to resolve issues and ensure that you will apply a fresh installation. It’s also the only way to install Windows 11 24H2 on a new empty hard drive.

When you have to create a bootable USB flash drive to set up a new installation of Windows 11 24H2, you can use the Media Creation Tool, Rufus, Ventoy, and Command Prompt.

In this guide, I will teach you multiple ways to create a USB bootable media to perform an in-place or clean install of the Windows 11 2024 Update. Although you can use virtually any USB flash drive, you still have to make sure it has at least 8GB of space. Also, it’s important to back up any data on the flash drive, as this process will format the flash drive, deleting its contents.

Important: Windows 11 24H2 is expected to be released sometime in September or October for existing devices. These instructions are meant for when the feature update is available, not before. It’s important to note that on June 18, the new version will only be available for the new Copilot+ PC, not existing devices. If you want to create a USB bootable flash drive with the latest preview of the operating system, you can use these steps to download the ISO file.
