How to enable update previews on Windows 10

Microsoft adds an option to download update previews with fixes and upcoming features for Windows 10.

  • To enable update previews on Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle switch.

On Windows 10, you can download non-security updates to test new features and fixes as soon as they’re available, and in this guide, I’ll outline the steps to complete this configuration. Microsoft makes cumulative updates every second Tuesday of each month (also called “Patch Tuesday”) as part of the system maintenance process. Internally, these updates are known as “B” releases because they roll out during the second week of the month, and they include security fixes and non-security fixes, new features, and improvements.

In addition, the company also makes the “C” and “D” releases available in the third and fourth week of the month. The difference is that these updates are optional and contain previews for non-security fixes and improvements expected to arrive during the following Patch Tuesday. Also, since the development team is still not completely done building on Windows 10, these updates may also contain new features.

If you want to install these non-security updates and try upcoming features, starting on build 19045.3754, Windows 10 includes an option in the “Windows Update” settings page to get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.

In this guide, I will teach you the steps to receive update previews on Windows 10.

Once you complete the steps, Windows 10 will receive those non-security updates with fixes, improvements, and upcoming features.

If you can’t find the option, the device doesn’t have the update that enables it. The “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option is available starting with the update KB5032278 (build 19045.3754) in the Release Preview Channel. Windows 11 includes the same option.
