Windows 10 update KB5003214 releases for version 20H2 (preview)

Windows 10 October 2020 Update (version 20H2) gets a lot of fixes and support for .hif files with update KB5003214.

  • Windows 10 20H2 receives the non-security update KB5003214.
  • The update is available for devices in the Beta and Release Preview channels.
  • Update KB5003214 adds support for the “.hif” extension for HEIF images and fixes a bunch of bugs.
  • Starting May 25, the update KB5003214 is available for the stable version of 21H1, 20H2, and 2004.

Microsoft has released the update KB5003214 for Windows 10 20H2 in the Beta and Release Preview channels as well as in the stable channel for versions 20H2 and 21H1. This is a non-security update that includes a slew of fixes and improvements expected to roll out to everyone during the next cumulative update.

The update KB5003214 bumps the version number to build 19042.1023, and according to the release logs, it fixes a memory leak and a problem with the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server. The update also addresses issues with video playback using an external high-dynamic-range (HDR) display, noise with spatial audio when using Bluetooth USB headphones, unplayable Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) music, and more.

Also, this Windows 10 update brings support for the “.hif” file extension for High-Efficiency Image File (HEIF) images.

If you are still on the version 20H2 (October 2020 Update), the update KB5003214 will address all of these issues:

  • Just-in-time (JIT) behavior of jscript9.dll.

  • Active Directory (AD) Admin Center that displays an error when it lists many organizational units (OU)or container objects, and PowerShell Transcription is enabled.

  • Timing issue that might cause a RemoteApp to intermittently duplicate characters entered on the local keyboard or pasted from the Windows clipboard.

Update May 26, 2021: Microsoft has made available the update KB5003214 available as an optional install for devices running the stable version of Windows 10 21H1, 20H2, and 2004.
