How to uninstall Windows 11 22H2 when PC doesn’t start

Here's how you can remove Windows 11 22H2 and roll back to the previous version if you have problems after the upgrade.

  • To remove Windows 11 22H2 if your PC doesn’t start, boot into WinRE and go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates > Uninstall latest feature update.
  • Then click the Uninstall feature update button to roll back to Windows 11 21H2 or Windows 10.

If, after the upgrade to Windows 11 22H2, the computer stops booting correctly and you cannot access the desktop, it’s possible to uninstall and roll back to the previous installation using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

The only caveat is that Windows 11 only gives you ten days to roll back after an upgrade. After ten days, the only way to undo the upgrade is to perform a fresh install of the older version.

To uninstall Windows 11 22H2 when the computer doesn’t start after the upgrade, use these steps:

  1. Press the power button.

  2. Immediately after the Power-On Self-Test (POST), and you see the blue Windows logo, press the power button again to interrupt the booting process and shut down the computer.

  3. Repeat steps No. 1 and No. 2 twice. Windows 11 should enter into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) in the third restart.

  10. Click the “Uninstall feature update” button to remove Windows 11 22H2.

Once you complete the steps, the system will uninstall the Windows 11 2022 Update from the computer, and it will roll back to version 21H2 or the previous version of Windows 10 in a process that should not take more than 10 minutes.
