Windows 10 update KB4580386 releases for version 1909 and 1903 (preview)

If you're using Windows 10 version 1909, 1903, or 1809, you can now download a preview of the next update which includes a slew of fixes and improvements.

As part of the Windows 10 version 1909 and version 1903 maintenance support, Microsoft is making available the KB4580386 update as an optional install. This package includes non-security fixes and improvements that are expected to arrive during the November 2020 Patch Tuesday rollout.

The KB4580386 update brings the version number to 18362.1171 and 18363.1171 depending whether you’re running version 1909 and 1903 respectively. According to the changelogs, the quality update brings the Meet Now in Skype to the taskbar. This is a feature that was introduced with the Insider preview build 20221, and it allows you to quickly connect with family and friends using video or voice, and the call can last up to 24 hours without having to sign up or download additional components.

Also, the optional update fixes screen to flash constantly issue, problem with USB printer port to disappear after restarting and the printer is turned off, and addresses a problem that may prevent you from playing certain games available in the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass subscription.

In addition, Microsoft is also making available the KB4580390 update for version 1809, which bumps the version number to build 17763.1554 and addresses a slew of problems.

Update KB4580386 for Windows 10 version 1909 and 1903

Microsoft has announced KB4580386 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “October 20, 2020—KB4580386 (OS Builds 18362.1171 and 18363.1171) Preview.” If you’re already running the November 2019 Update or May 2019 Update, this update fixes a lot of problems, some of which include:

  • Addresses an issue that might prevent a Microsoft Xbox Game Pass user from playing certain games that are eligible for play.
  • Fixes a problem that displays nothing on the screen for five minutes or more during the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session.
  • Addresses a reliability issue that causes the screen to flash constantly.
  • Addresses an issue that displays the incorrect CPU frequency for certain processors.
  • Fixes a problem that causes Windows to stop working and generates error 0x17.
  • Adds functionality that shows a preview of the features and capabilities included in an update when a new update is offered to your device. On the Windows Update page (Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update), there’s an option to “See what’s in this update.”
  • Adds support for the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.1 and 1.2 protocols when connecting to SQL Server using the data providers in Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC).
  • Fixes a problem that might degrade Windows performance and prevent the LanmanServer service from starting when third-party software uses LanmanServer custom file system controls (FSCTL).
  • Improves the Windows Server Storage Migration Service by adding inventory validation, improving retransfer performance, resolving multiple issue (including reliability issues), and verifying that source machines have installed the current update.

Microsoft has also announced KB4580390 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “October 20, 2020—KB4580390 (OS Build 17763.1554) Preview.” In the case that you’re running the Windows 10 October 2018 Update on your device, this update fixes a lot of problems, some of which include:

  • Addresses an issue with the out of box user experience on some devices that prevents an upgrade from completing.
  • Fixes a problem that prevents you from signing in on certain servers.
  • Addresses an issue that displays the incorrect CPU frequency for certain processors.
  • Fixes a problem with Task Manager reports that show an incorrect cache value for the CPU.
  • Addresses an issue that causes Windows to stop working and generates error 0x17. This issue occurs when Windows Defender Device Guard is enabled, and a driver is loaded with a 4K Microsoft Portable Executable (PE) header.
  • Adds support for the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.1 and 1.2 protocols when connecting to SQL Server using the data providers in Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC).
  • Fixes a problem with a deadlock in the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCPIP) driver that causes the operating system to stop working or stop responding.
  • Improves the Windows Server Storage Migration Service by adding inventory validation, improving retransfer performance, resolving multiple issue (including reliability issues), and verifying that source machines have installed the current update.
