  • Windows 11 version 26H2 reached general availability on October 21, 2026, for eligible PCs running versions 25H2 and 24H2.
  • The update uses an enablement package for supported versions, making installation similar to a regular monthly update.
  • Windows 11 26H2 includes AI, accessibility, Start menu, Taskbar, File Explorer, and other improvements, many delivered through cumulative updates.

Windows 11 2026 Update (version 26H2) is now fully available for download through the Windows Update settings on computers already running version 25H2 or 24H2 that meet the minimum system requirements. Although the new version of Windows launched on September 29, 2026, the gradual rollout was limited. However, it has now “reached general availability” for eligible devices.

According to a new update on the health dashboard website, starting October 21, 2026, the new operating system version has reached general availability. This new version contains all the recently announced features in Windows 11, versions 25H2 and 24H2, and will be delivered using servicing technology, providing a fast installation experience.

The broader deployment is available as an enablement package for devices running Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2. Although the upgrade option is also available for Windows 10, Microsoft is being specific that the version 26H2 phased rollout has reached full availability for devices running Windows 11, versions 25H2 and 24H2.

What’s new on Windows 11 26H2

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 26H2 introduces new AI-powered experiences, including an Agent in Settings to find and manage settings with natural language, richer image descriptions in Narrator, new Task Manager monitoring for AI workloads and NPU activity, and new Taskbar experiences for accessing AI tools and tracking tasks.

The company also notes that it’s adding more personalization options to the Start menu and Taskbar. Users can choose different Start menu sizes, hide their profile picture and account name, control the visibility of individual sections, move the Taskbar to different positions on the screen, and use a more compact Taskbar layout.

Windows Search and File Explorer get improvements for finding content and managing files, while accessibility expands Voice Access language support, improves voice recognition in noisy environments, enhances Magnifier controls, and adds richer image descriptions in Narrator.

Other improvements include better Windows Share integration, enhanced Android phone and Windows PC experiences, expanded Windows Hello fingerprint support, improved Smart App Control, Shared Audio, Multi-App Camera, a simplified Basic Camera mode, more focused Widgets notifications, gaming and Xbox improvements, and better networking reliability.

Here’s a comprehensive guide to the new features and improvements Microsoft is adding to Windows 11 26H2.

It’s important to understand how Windows 11 releases work, as the company has changed its approach to delivering new features and improvements. Although Microsoft promotes new features with each version, you won’t notice many changes when upgrading from version 25H2 or 24H2 to 26H2 because all three releases share the same core operating system. As a result, these versions can receive the same features and improvements through cumulative updates.

Since the release of Windows 11 25H2, Microsoft has increasingly delivered new features and improvements through regular cumulative updates instead of reserving them for major feature updates. Throughout 2026, the company has continued this approach, introducing changes in almost every update. This means many of the features and improvements users might associate with version 26H2 have already been rolling out to existing installations of Windows 11.

This approach allows Microsoft to deliver new features gradually through Windows Update without requiring users to install a separate feature update to get the latest improvements. It also reduces the need for large upgrades, which can take time to complete and sometimes introduce new problems during or after installation.

Known issue with the new version

Although Windows 11 26H2 is now fully available, that doesn’t mean it’s bug-free, since bugs and other issues can still occur depending on your hardware and software configuration. However, as of this writing, there are no known issues, as the company has resolved or mitigated them all.

However, since this update is small, it’s recommended to upgrade as soon as the option becomes available in Windows Update settings.

Windows 11 26H2 upgrade options

The company offers version 26H2 as an enablement package that installs like a regular monthly update. This means that the easiest way to upgrade a computer already running version 25H2 or 24H2 is to use the “Windows Update” settings.

If you’re on version 25H2 or 24H2, you don’t need another upgrade method, as it would trigger a full reinstall, which isn’t necessary for this release.

Also, if you have a computer running version 23H2, an older release, or Windows 10, then the easiest way to force the upgrade to Windows 11 26H2 is to use the “Windows Update” settings. However, you can install the new version using the Installation Assistant, an ISO file mounted in File Explorer, or a bootable USB flash drive. Alternatively, you can perform an in-place upgrade with the official ISO file.

A clean installation of Windows 11 2026 Update will delete your files, apps, and settings.

If the feature update is causing problems, you have at least two ways to uninstall version 25H2.

You can also follow these instructions to create a bootable USB using the Media Creation Tool.

You can also use the Rufus tool to create a USB offline installer for version 26H2.

After installation, you can confirm that the new version applied correctly using the following instructions.
