On July 15, 2015, Microsoft is making available Windows 10 build 10240 to both the Fast and Slow rings. Although, the company hasn’t officially announced it, build 10240 is one of the versions already consider as Windows 10 RTM.

Windows 10 build 10240 brings enhancements and improvements over the last public preview, but it doesn’t include any significant visual changes. At this point is all about fixing bugs and making the operating system stable for the July 29th release. However, there is a small change, in this build Microsoft is removing the watermark, but you can easily know which version you are running by typing winver on the taskbar’s search box.

Among the new changes on this build, Microsoft is making various improvements on Microsoft Edge. According to the company, it has been optimizing the performance, and on this build Microsoft Edge is better than Chrome and Safari on their own JavaScript benchmarks:

  • On WebKit Sunspider, Edge is 112% faster than Chrome
  • On Google Octane, Edge is 11% faster than Chrome
  • On Apple JetStream, Edge is 37% faster than Chrome

The company also says that developers working on Windows 10 will have the chance to finally upload their universal Windows apps to the Windows Dev Center using “production quality Windows 10 tools on July 29th.”

The new update is available immediately, but only for Windows Insiders signed in with a Microsoft Account, and through the Windows Update, so no more ISO files for download until further notice. The company needs to keep testing the upgrade process, so it needs everyone to stress test the upgrade process using Windows Update.
